MissionThe mission of our Religious Education Program corresponds with that of the fellowship as a whole. We strive to create a vibrant, nurturing community for our children and youth Throughout its history, our fellowship has considered the children as an integral part of the whole. We therefore include the children in the first part of every Sunday service. We also have several intergenerational services throught the church year. Religious Education ClassesInfants (pre-walking) * We are sorry that we cannot provide child care for very young babies. We respectfully request that the infants of the congregation stay with their parents/guardians. If parents need to leave to soothe a child, there are comfy chairs in the foyer of Lourdes Hall. In case part of the service is missed by the parent/guardian, the services are recorded and available for listening on the home page. Pre-K (walking through 4 years) * The PreK children will leave with the caregiver when the congregation sings: "Go Now in Peace". These children will spend approximately 40 minutes reading, drawing, playing games together in the classroom across the hallway. Should any situation arise in which the caregivers need help they will step across the hallway open the door and request help from any adult support person or any other member of the congregation. * This group is supported by caregivers: By adult support people: Kindergarten through 4th grade * The K-4 children will leave with the caregiver when the congregation sings: "Go Now in Peace". These children will spend approximately 40 minutes with a volunteer teacher working on Principal based curriculum. Middle School (5th through 7th grade) * The middle school children will leave with Patti Neal when the congregation sings: "Go Now in Peace". Middle school-aged children love a good story. With this in mind we have devised a curriculum that teaches the many stories from the Bible that are a part of the fabric of western culture. This year they will spend approximately 40 minutes with Patti (or substitute) learning about the New Testament and Unitarian Universalist history. High School (8th -12th grade) * These young adults will leave as indicated by Monica Akre. RE Program
UUFW employs a Religious Education Coordinator to recruit and assist volunteer teachers with the lessons. Our Sunday Services always include all the children in the opening segment of the service. We also include the children in the opening and closing services of the year and in certain other special services during the year such as the Flower Communion, Thanksgiving celebration and Spirit of Christmas service. |
